PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A local woman was told she needed to look at an internet site and type in a specific name.

The site was advertising prostitution. When she typed in the name, the images that appeared were of her 17-year-old daughter.

"I was just sick to my stomach," the woman told Fox 12.

The tip about the site came from a friend of the girl. That girl was taken into custody March 11 as part of a sting operation at a local hotel.

Two people are now facing sex trafficking charges, accused of luring the 17-year-old into prostitution.

Konrod Mason and Julia Haner were arraigned on federal indictments earlier this week.

According to court documents, Haner, a former cheerleader at Lake Oswego High School, had been a classmate of the teen girl. They were friends and rode the bus together to school.

A U.S. District Court memorandum says Haner reached out to the girl with messages on Facebook, persuading her to "make money" with them.

"They took her out and got her hair done, they got her a bunch of clothes and they made it sound really good, like, 'we're a team, we're gonna make a bunch of money,'" the girl's mother told Fox 12 Thursday.

To not identify the victim, Fox 12 is calling the woman "Amber" and her teen daughter "Nicole."

Amber said her daughter had dropped out of high school and gotten a job. After losing that job, she intended to begin taking classes again.

She said that's when Haner began recruiting her.

Almost immediately after finding her photos online, Amber said Nicole, who lives with her father, called her with a random request. She said the teen claimed to need an ID so she could travel out of state. She mentioned stripping and let slip that her trip might also include being an escort.

Amber went to police, even though she knew it would mean her daughter would likely be arrested.

"I was willing for her to be mad at me just to get her back safe," she said.

Detectives contacted the girl using an internet site and arranged for her to meet an undercover officer at a hotel, where she was taken into custody.

"She feels like everybody's ashamed of her, so it's hard for her in that aspect, but I told her, 'just be strong,'" Amber said.

Mason and Haner are now facing charges of sex trafficking of a minor and transportation of a minor for prostitution.

Court documents state after the teen girl's arrest, they started recruiting another woman who Haner knew through cheerleading to work for Mason as a prostitute.

"I hope these people get what they deserve," Amber said.

Amber said the suspects try to make the dangerous lifestyle seem glamorous and she knows the victims, like her daughter, are scared to say no.

"Reach out to someone," she said. "If it's not your mother and it's not your father, reach out to a friend. If you're scared, there's ways that people can help you. You don't have to do this."
