ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -

A family on a hiking trip made a gruesome discovery Sunday afternoon after spotting a body in the Willamette River near Bryant Park.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office reports the family spotted the body of an adult male floating in the river around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies reported the body was moderately decomposing, indicating to them it had been in the river for some time.

Officials have not made a positive identification on the man nor have they determined a cause of death, but they are looking at missing persons reports to see if it'll help them identify the body.

The man is described an adult white man who was about 6'2" to 6' 4" tall with short, graying hair and a beard.

The Benton County Marine Patrol along with the Albany Fire and Police Department assisted in the removal of the body.

Anyone with information about a possible ID on the man should contact Linn County Detective Mike Harmon at 541-967-3950.
