Man accused of falling asleep at the wheel slams into I-84 sign

HUNTINGTON, OR (KPTV) -

A Baker City man is accused of falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing into a metal highway sign on Interstate 84.

Emergency crews were called to the scene about 10 miles west of Huntington in eastern Oregon at 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Investigators said Hector Torres, 25, was driving westbound when his car traveled off the highway, rolled and came to rest against a sign post.

Torres was rescued by firefighters and taken to the hospital. Police described his injuries as minor.

He was wearing a seat belt.

Investigators said Torres had fallen asleep while driving. He was cited by Oregon State Police for failure to drive within his lane.
