SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A man and his girlfriend are on the run after deputies said he crashed a stolen car and she helped him get away.

Marion County deputies were called to the 4500 block of Harlan Drive Northeast in Salem at 7 a.m. Sunday.

Neighbors reported a silver Chrysler 300 had driven through multiple yards and then rolled several times before landing back on its tires.

The driver started to run from the scene but quickly returned, got back in the car and drove away.

The suspect then drove just a few more blocks to Janice Avenue Northeast. Investigators said he parked the car and ran away.

The car had been reported stolen from a party and the suspect was identified as Hector Tavares, 20, of Salem.

Investigators said Tavares ran to his girlfriend's house to hide. The woman, identified as Michelle Garcia-Elias, 23, of Salem, allowed Tavares to hide out at her place, before she drove him to his home, "helping him escape capture from responding law enforcement," according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Tavares and Garcia-Elias are still being sought by deputies. They are facing numerous criminal charges.

Investigators said they may be in a black Chrysler 300. If you know where they are or have any other details about this investigation, call deputies at 503-588-5032. You can remain anonymous.
