SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A 43-year-old man was arrested in Salem early Thursday morning after a 30-mile police chase, according to Lt. Greg Hastings with the Oregon State Police.

Canby Police Chief Smith identified the alleged driver as Eric Clifford Jones. Jones was booked at the Clackamas County Jail and charged with driving on a suspended license and two counts of attempt to elude police.

At about 1:10 a.m., an officer with the Canby Police Department tried to pull over a 1998 Audi A4 for traffic violations.

Instead of pulling over, the driver took off, leading police on a 30-mile chase that reached speeds up to 80 mph.

Multiple agencies joined in the pursuit. The chase ended when the Gervais Police Department set up spike strips at Highway 99E and Brooklake Road NE, according to Lt. Hastings.

The car continued down Highway 99E until the driver hit a power pole near Nevada Street. The suspect then tried to run away, but was caught by a Marion County Sheriff's Office K-9 near the car, according to Lt. Hastings.
