Delivers independent analysis of Prevoty's new application security as a service offering
LOS ANGELES, May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Prevoty, Inc., a new security software company providing Application Security-as-a-Service for enterprises, today announced the availability of an independent analyst Impact Report from 451 Research. Entitled "Application security as a service: the 'un-WAF' from Prevoty", the report, authored by noted security analyst, Wendy Nather, outlines the challenges that CISO's face with respect to application security and discusses Prevoty's new approach.
Web Application Firewalls (WAF's) analyze network traffic and attempt to work out whether any of this traffic may be carrying malicious content without the benefit of any context from the application. This approach can result in many "false positives" – where valid user traffic is rejected – meaning that many organizations run their WAF's in "passive" mode, without any active defense. Prevoty is fundamentally different, an "un-WAF" to quote Nather, and uses pre-built SDK's to enable API calls to its contextual and behavioral analysis engine from within the application itself.
The recent very public spate of security breaches has meant heightened awareness of security in the C-Suite and, with the increased effectiveness of network security products, hackers have increasingly turned to the application layer as a softer target. Application layer attacks such as cross-site scripting (XSS), SQL injection and cross-site request forgery (CSRF) are the most common and enterprises are looking for immediate solutions.
"Breach reports are still showing web applications as the primary vector for attacks on the enterprise," said Wendy Nather, analyst at 451 Research and author of the report. "Prevoty approaches application protection in a new way, by having code inserted in the application that calls its API to do the analysis and scrubbing of incoming requests in real-time."
"We fundamentally believe that true application security requires context from inside the application itself," said Julien Bellanger, co-founder and CEO of Prevoty. "As the first product delivering this new layer of security, we are delighted that leading industry analysts such as 451 Research are tracking our progress."
