Strategic partnership designed to provide quality content at scale to amplify coverage of thousands of schools across more than 100 properties
NEW YORK, May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TODAY High School Sports, the nation's leading source for high school sports news and information, has entered into a strategic partnership with photo crowdsourcing service Scoopshot® to provide photo and video coverage for up to 18,000 high schools across the country, beginning with the 2014-15 scholastic season.
Scoopshot, a part of the P2S Media Group, provides a software solution that enables everyone, from professional photographers to student journalists, to easily shoot and upload still and video images into a central, authenticated database, and provides payment to each contributor each time their images are used.
Scoopshot currently offers media outlets and brands access to nearly 500,000 mobile photographers in 177 countries around the world, and its service is used by more than 70 global media outlets.
"This partnership will help provide us with a potentially unprecedented amount of visual content at scale for our coverage of high school sports around the country," said Dave Morgan, President of the USA TODAY Sports Media Group, which oversees USA TODAY High School Sports. "It also speaks directly to our mission of being engaged in, and part of, local communities throughout the country, which this will greatly enhance.
"As we prepare to re-launch USA TODAY High School Sports on our new lightweight digital platform, and to amplify its mobile capabilities with a new app in time for next season's kickoff, we're excited to partner with Scoopshot to expand our content-gathering and distribution capabilities to conceivably include every game in every sport, in every community throughout the country."
"A partnership with Dave Morgan and the USA TODAY Sports Media Group is exactly the right move at the right time for both of our organizations," said Scoopshots Executive Vice President Dave Rickley. "I've collaborated with Dave for more than two decades in a variety of publishing capacities, and this extraordinary combination of Scoopshot's powerful technology solutions and Gannett's unique, relevant visual content will elevate our respective efforts for years to come. I am excited about the positive effect this effort will have on schools, communities and sports participants across the country."
As part of the partnership, USA TODAY High School Sports will work with its network of more than 7,500 school athletic directors to introduce the Scoopshot partnership to their respective school journalism curriculums to enable high school students to not only learn new, rapidly changing media techniques, but to also allow them to get real newsgathering experience.
