Debra Berglund recognized for her outstanding dedication and contributions to students and the College

ST. CLOUD, Minn., May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Minnesota School of Business is proud to announce Debra Berglund, health care management program chair at the St. Cloud campus, has been names Educator of the Year by  the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU). Berglund was selected out of thousands of nominees for the award based on her exceptional instructional ability, leadership, active professional interests and proven accomplishments.

"Deb is an exceptional member of our faculty and is someone I can rely on to provide an excellent educational experience for our students," says Christine Jegers, Minnesota School of Business dean of faculty. "She has unwavering dedication to both our students and the teaching profession."

Berglund a certified medical assistant (CMA (AAMA)) with more than 30 years of experience in the medical field,  has been an integral part of the health care management program at the Minnesota School of Business-St. Cloud campus since 2006. In 2010 she was promoted into her role as health care program chair, where she manages curriculum development, reporting and compliance. Berglund also teaches a number of courses including: Public Health, US Health Systems, Health Politics and Policy, Hospital Administration, Long-Term Care and Medical Terminology. Berglund leads the Program Advisory Committee, comprised of community partners from the health care profession that advise on curriculum development of the professional courses.

In addition to her leadership and teaching duties Berglund assists with the student association for health careers, advising and mentoring students to be successful in their courses, and to ensure they're prepared to be successful in their career. She also volunteers her own time to health-related causes such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

Berglund received her Associate of Applied Science degree in chemical dependency counseling from Minneapolis Community College, and completed both her Bachelor of Science and her Master of Science degrees in health care management from Minnesota School of Business. Berglund is a member of the Minnesota Medical Group Management Association, the American Association of Medical Assistants, and the American Acadeher of Professional Coders.
