A Hillsboro high school teacher is accused of sexually abusing a student.
Detectives arrested Gregg Jensen, 54, of Hillsboro, at 9 a.m. Friday. The arrest came after a weeklong investigation into sex abuse allegations involving Jensen and a 17-year-old girl.
Jensen is a teacher at Liberty High School and police said the girl is a student. The school's website lists Jensen as teaching economics, government and history.
"He's really nice to students, and we really relate to him," said former student Emmanuel Leal. "He doesn't act like a teacher, more like a friend."
Detectives said the crimes occurred between February and April 2014 in Hillsboro. The exact locations of the alleged incidents is under investigation.
Jensen was booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of sex abuse, luring a minor and encouraging child sex abuse.
"From how I know him and how he's helped me study and pass history, I don't think all of these allegations are true," said Leal.
"I think he's a good guy, in a bad situation," said LHS Senior Dallas Johnson. "I mean, he's got the looks, but I don't think he would do it himself. You're not what you like and he's a pretty good guy."
Police said there is no information about the possibility of additional victims at this time, but anyone with information about the suspect or this case is asked to call Detective Cheryl Banks at 503-681-6175.
A Hillsboro School District spokeswoman said Jensen was placed on paid leave starting April 24, when the investigation began. As of Friday, he was on unpaid leave and the district is moving forward with the dismissal process.
Jensen was hired in August 1999 at Miller Education Center and then transferred to Liberty High School when it opened in 2003.
Deputies said Jensen was also cited for DUII and reckless driving on April 25 after crashing his car on the 22000 block of Northwest Pumpkin Ridge Road.
