Portland police seek serial arsonist

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police are looking for a suspected serial arsonist who is believed to have set at least six fires in a North Portland neighborhood.

Surveillance video from one of two homes targeted by the suspect shows a man in a hooded sweatshirt walking up to the home and extending an arm to the porch. Minutes later, a chair on the porch burst into flames. A firefighter can be seen arriving at the home and throwing the burning chair into the street.

Elsewhere, Stephanie Dowell told FOX12 that she woke to the sound of someone screaming to get out of the house. When she walked downstairs, she could see the flames outside.

"I have this big picture window, and the curtains were just glowing orange. And when I opened the front door, the flames were just flickering up the side of the house," said Dowell.

Dowell's father's pickup, which was parked in the driveway, was torched, as was another car nearby.

The Portland Police Bureau is asking anyone with information about the crimes to call Arson Detective Joe Luiz at (503) 823-3408 or joseph.luiz@portlandoregon.gov.
