With help from Reddit, Portland chili grower starts hot sauce company

Posted: Updated:

Dane Wilcox, of Portland, loves growing peppers, and he's been growing his own peppers at his home for years now.

After ending up with a surplus, he decided to make his own hot sauce. That's when FYM Sauce was born, and it grew fast.

Wilcox debuted the sauce on Reddit, and the response was so overwhelming that he launched a Kickstarter campaign.

One day after starting the account, Wilcox raised nearly $40,000 and now plans to expand his product line into different flavors.

So what is FYM Sauce? It has a hint of sweet garlic and mixes in the burn from habaneros and three other chilies. Basically, be prepared to be blown away, Wilcox says.

"I want to have hot sauce all over the world. I'm already getting requests from people in Finland and Switzerland and all over Africa and Asia," Wilcox said.
