SELLWOOD, OR (KPTV) -

The Sellwood Bridge reopened ahead of schedule Friday afternoon.

Crews began installing 27 concrete girders on support columns for the east approach to the new bridge at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The girders are up to 109 feet long and weigh up to 75,000 pounds. Some of the delivery trucks were 140 feet long.

Crews were able to complete their work and reopen the bridge at 1 p.m. Friday, three hours ahead of schedule.

The new Sellwood Bridge is scheduled to open in the early fall of 2015. The entire project will be completed in 2016.
