DHS dispute leads to police standoff, Taser use, arrest

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland man is accused of threatening police officers assisting in a Department of Human Services dispute during at a standoff Friday morning.

Police were called to the home near North Fessenden Street and North Van Houten Avenue to assist DHS workers in taking children into custody.

Officers said Steven Robinson, 37, was angry and making threats toward them. The officers backed away and called for additional resources to respond to the scene.

Police said Robinson went in and out of the house, with the kids inside, while talking to officers at the scene.

At some point, police said officers were able to sneak up behind him while the kids were away and attempted to take the man into custody. Police said a stund gun was used.

Robinson was arrested and booked in the Multnomah County Jail on misdemeanor charges of attempted assault of a police officer, disorderly conduct, interfering with a peace officer and obstructing a government official.

Police said the children were not hurt and are now in DHS custody.
