New car stolen from Salem dealership

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A new car was stolen right from a Salem dealership. The manager says someone just drove it off their lot Friday.

"We thought, well, maybe somebody moved it," Honda of Salem general manager Matt Perry said. "Maybe somebody slid it around on the lot or put it back in one of the lines. That wasn't the case."

Overnight Thursday, the black Honda Accord coupe went missing. The car was in for a few minor touchups. Then, it was supposed to go right back to its owner.

But, Friday morning, workers found its parking spot in the wash bay empty. Perry thinks the thief somehow got through the side door even though it was locked.

"We stored it overnight, had it washed up in a wash bay, had it locked away in the wash bay, and someone broke into the wash bay and stole it," he said.

Ever since, what appears to be the same car has been spotted around town. In West Salem, a gas station captured surveillance video of the stolen car and the man Perry said was driving it.

"That's pretty surprising to me that he's apparently driving from West Salem to Keizer and back, and we're right in the middle," Perry said.

Because of that, he's been keeping his head on a swivel and hoping to see it go by. In the meantime, he's hoping someone else might spot it, too.

"It's just a bad situation," Perry said.

The missing car is a black, two-door Honda Accord. It has a Honda of Salem license plate frame on the front and a temporary license plate in the back window that reads A295315.
