Legendary Music Event Celebrates 45 Years of Influence in Music, Fashion and Pop Culture
NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES, May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Perryscope, an industry-leading licensing and merchandise company, and Epic Rights, a full-service global branding, licensing and rights management company, have been named to jointly manage a global licensing program for Woodstock, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this August.
The announcement was made today by Joel Rosenman and Michael Lang, of Woodstock Ventures, the firm that produced the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and owns the related intellectual property; Norman Perry, Co-Founder of Perryscope; and Dell Furano, CEO, Epic Rights.
Perryscope and Epic Rights will serve as global licensing agents overseeing a series of innovative initiatives that both honor and reflect the Woodstock legacy and lifestyle. As the pioneer of music festivals, Woodstock continues to be the genre's ultimate standard as well as the catalyst for today's explosion of festivals around the globe.
The Woodstock spirit remains compelling today, encompassing the support of universal human rights; freedom of creative expression; the loving care of our planet; fair trade and ethical business practices; the power of the individual to make a difference; and the transformative impact of communities as advocates of peaceful change. For more information, see the new Woodstock Website
The Woodstock global licensing program will be supported by a new social media and ecommerce platform that will further engage current fans while also serving to introduce the brand to younger generations. The Woodstock General Store is where fans engage with products online. It features a curated selection of the highest-quality apparel, accessory, specialty and lifestyle products, many originally produced for the Woodstock General Store. The product execution and retail development strategies will reflect Woodstock's global appeal, its commitment to quality, and its message of peace and positive change. The licensing program will be based on a fashion-driven lifestyle program reflecting the ongoing trend of natural and homegrown products including apparel, accessories, home goods and stationery.
"Woodstock Ventures is excited to be collaborating with these two highly successful companies. We believe this partnership will move Woodstock forward in a relevant and deserving way that respects the history and culture of the brand," jointly stated Rosenman along with Woodstock Ventures' partners Michael Lang and Jen Roberts, daughter of original Woodstock co-producer John Roberts. "At Woodstock, the gathering changed our lives, the music changed the world, and, through this new partnership, we intend to continue to be a force for positive change."
"Woodstock has remained a classic brand over the decades. There have been both a consistent presence and an ongoing expansion of the brand thanks to the many licensees engaged with it," added Perryscope's Perry. "Woodstock made a global cultural impact, awakening the world to the power of music, community and respect for nature. We look forward to working with Dell and the Epic Rights team to continue to deliver the brand's message to new generations."
"The festival supercharged the careers of many great music artists including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Santana, Janis Joplin, Sly and The Family Stone, Crosby Stills Nash and Young. The spirit of Woodstock lives on in fashion and attitude across generations and beyond borders," said Epic Rights' Furano. "Woodstock was the catalyst for a musical and cultural explosion around the globe that continues to resonate with musicians and music lovers worldwide. It's that essence of Woodstock that we're looking to capture and share."
A cultural touchstone for the late sixties and for the generations that followed, Woodstock, the three-day outdoor rock festival celebrating peace and music, encompassed 32 acts performing before nearly half a million young people, earning the distinction of being one of the most important entertainment events of all time. Woodstock is also synonymous with a cultural shift in music, attitude and lifestyle, affecting every aspect of society around the globe. Regarded as One of the 50 Moments that Changed the History of Rock and Roll, according to Rolling Stone, the event had a profound effect on movies, music, fashion, art, social mores, and heralded a cultural freedom that continues today.
Drawing from the collective experience and impressive track records of its joint leadership team, Perryscope and Epic Rights share a vast knowledge and tremendous experience in the music/entertainment industry. The two companies balance each other's strengths and provide formidable relationships with licensees and manufacturers across a multitude of product lines. Spanning all traditional media platforms, the two companies also bring an expertise in the application of social media to connecting brands with fans, licensees, retailers, ad agencies, and consumer products and service companies.
