CHICAGO, May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The June issue of Chicago magazine features part two of the series Special Report: The Truth About Chicago's Crime Rates, revealing further results of Chicago's year-long investigation into the city's police records. The investigation reveals that the dramatically improved crime rates touted by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his top cop are not what they seem, and a Chicagoan's chances of getting mugged, burgled or assaulted may be considerably higher than the police department is reporting. While the first of the two-part series focused specifically on homicides, the second part delves into all other crimes, including criminal sexual assaults, robberies, aggravated batteries, burglaries, general and motor vehicle thefts and incidents of arson.
On a brighter note, Chicago kicks off the summer featuring three 1,000-plus mile road trips in Road Rules, complete with itineraries and mini-guides of things to do and see along the way. For those desiring shorter trips, Chicago includes a cheat sheet listing 10 classic day trips to the most charming towns around Lake Michigan.
In the Chef Slimdown, three Chicago-area chefs - all of whom saw their weight escalate to concerning levels - discuss how they recently managed to shed a collective 382 pounds and (mostly) keep it off. Topping off at 400 pounds, Michael Lachowicz, chef and owner of Restaurant Michael in Winnetka, talks about his rock-bottom moment and how changing his diet and exercise routine was more about saving his life than it was about losing weight. Each inspiring story features the chef's diet and exercise plan, along with recipes for their favorite dishes that are just as delicious as they are good for you.
