Racist graffiti spray-painted in Vancouver park

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A vandal spray-painted racist graffiti on playground equipment at a Vancouver park.

Neighbors discovered the graffiti, which included hateful and intolerant messages, on Sunday morning, painted on swing seats, a picnic table and a play structure as well as a racist message painted in large yellow letters on the sidewalk at Jack A. Fazio Neighborhood Park in NW Vancouver.

"Makes you pretty sad, actually, that people have to express themselves in that way," said Franklin Kessler, who came to the park to play catch with his son.

Neighbors around the park said it's at the center of a quiet and socially active community. The hateful words were horribly out of place, they said.

Two park visitors who noticed the spray-painted words took it upon themselves to clean them.  What they couldn't clean, they painted over themselves. By evening, none of the graffiti remained.
