Hillsboro police scanning license plates in a parking lot said they found stolen plates on a stolen car being driven by a fugitive wanted in Washington.

Officers were using the department's automated license plate reader system on cars driving through the parking lot at Fred Meyer on Northwest Imbrie Drive at 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The system identified stolen license plates on a 2014 Kia Sorrento. Investigators said the plates were reported stolen out of Portland, while the car was stolen in King County, WA.

Officers waited in the parking lot for someone to return to the car. Bradley Robinett, 45, of Washington, approached the car a short time later, was contacted by the officers and then arrested.

Police learned he was a wanted fugitive with warrants for robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle and contempt of court.

Robinett was booked in the Washington County Jail.
