Thousands to bare it all on bicycles for annual Naked Bike Ride

Posted: Updated: June 6, 2014 12:11 PM

Thousands of naked people will be pedaling through Portland on Saturday night.

The annual World Naked Bike Ride begins at 9 p.m. at Normandale Park, 5600 N.E. Halsey.

According to organizers, the event is a "lighthearted protest" against dependence on fossil fuels, while also highlighting the vulnerability of cyclists.

It's also described as a celebration of positive body image for all.

Regardless of the reasons, plenty of people every year get naked and hop on their bikes.

In previous years, Portland police said they would exercise "tremendous discretion" regarding the event, as long as the bike riders stay on the route with the rest of the cyclists.

Police have also encouraged all riders to have bike lights and to at least wear a helmet and shoes to avoid potential injuries.

Riders will begin assembling at Normandale Park at 8 p.m. Saturday, with the ride officially getting underway at 9 p.m. Information:
