West Linn's Emma Waibel crowned Rose Festival Queen

Posted: Updated:

For the 100th time, a queen has been crowned.

The Portland Rose Festival named West Linn High School's Emma Waibel the 2014 Rose Festival queen ahead of the Grand Floral Parade.

The Queen's Coronation was held at Memorial Coliseum just prior to the Rose Festival's signature event.

Waibel said being part of the Rose Festival Court was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"My favorite part was getting to know these girls. This is such an honor because these girls are an incredible group. I've become so close with them, and I made friends for a lifetime," Waibel said.

Waibel, who was born in Oregon City, is a junior at West Linn High School. She's the director of the school's Sparrow Club, an outdoor school counselor and a former class president. She also participated in the International Science and Engineering Fair. She says her favorite place to visit in Portland is the city's locally owned coffee shops.

She'll represent Portland as the Rose Festival Queen for the next year.

"Whatever comes my way, I'm ready for it. I'm truly honored, and I'm pumped!" she said.
