KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) - A vehicle that a 7-year-old girl was in when it crashed this weekend had rolled backward and struck a guardrail, according to new information from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.

After the crash, Ava Marie Wager, 7, of Barnett Drive, Kingsport, was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center, where she died.

According to the sheriff's office, Wagers' father parked his Chevy S10 truck in front of the Dollar General Store on New Beason Well Road around 1 p.m. Saturday, and while he was in the store, the truck rolled backward with Wagers still inside.

The truck rolled down the parking lot and south on New Beason Well before hitting the guardrail and a road sign.

Wagers was reportedly trying to get out of the truck when it crashed.

No other information was immediately available.

The crash is still under investigation.

News Channel 11 has learned the person hospitalized after a crash in Kingsport Saturday afternoon has died.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, the seven year old girl was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center where she later died.

The Sheriff's Office is not releasing the girl's name at this time. The crash is still under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that sent one person to the hospital Saturday afternoon.

According to Lt. Andy Seabolt, the crash happened on the 100 block of New Beason Well Road in Kingsport. It was a single vehicle crash and one occupant was sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's office was still on scene investigating the crash as of 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
