SCIO, OR (KPTV) -

Around 200 sheep were killed in a rollover crash on Highway 226.

Police were called to the scene near Scio at 10:45 a.m. Friday. Investigators said a truck pulling a livestock trailer loaded with sheep crashed after the driver possibly had a medical problem.

The truck went off the roadway and overturned.

Firefighters, police and people in the area worked together to help remove the surviving sheep from the trailer.

Veterinarians and others from the Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine were also called to the scene to help with the injured sheep.

Police said some of the animals were euthanized at the direction of the sheep's owner. Around 100 sheep survived.

Investigators are not releasing the name of the owner or the driver at this time. The driver was taken to Samaritan Albany General Hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.
