TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

One man was sent to the hospital after he and another hiker were lost and later rescued in Romero Canyon on Monday afternoon.

A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old female started hiking in Romero Pools around 6 a.m. but lost the trail and ended up in Romero Canyon, according to Pima County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Chris Nanos. The man called authorities to request a helicopter because they were on a cliff,  light-headed and didn't think he could hike out.

The Golder Ranch Fire Department, Northwest Fire, Department of Safety and the Southern Arizona Rescue Association responded. Rescue personnel provided fluids and helped the two hike out. Nanos said the man had heat-related complications while on the trail and had to be helped out of the canyon.

They were re-evaluated in the parking lot until the girl was taken home by family members and the man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
