BALTIMORE, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Linthicum, Md.-based Electronic Systems sector is hosting its second Maryland STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Scholars Awards Dinner to salute this year's statewide recipients of Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars awards and the students and mentors participating in the company's High School Involvement Partnership (HIP) program.

Now in its 12th year, the academic-based Engineering Scholars program awards $10,000 engineering scholarships to one student from each of Maryland's 23 counties and the city of Baltimore. Also, 13 Baltimore-area high school graduates of the company's HIP program, which helps develop tomorrow's technical leaders, will each receive a $20,000 engineering-related scholarship, payable in four yearly installments.

Each of the 31 high school students currently involved in the multiyear HIP program at the company's campuses in Linthicum, Annapolis and Sykesville plan, develop and execute a technical project with the help of their Northrop Grumman employee mentors. Those projects will be on display during a reception prior to the awards dinner. Students will be available during the reception to discuss their projects with the news media.
