Vandals slash tires a second time in SE Portland neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

Vandals are targeting tires on parked cars in a southeast Portland neighborhood for the second straight week.

Police responded to the area of Southeast 41st Avenue and Schiller Street in the Woodstock neighborhood Tuesday morning on the report of multiple vehicles with flattened tires.

Officers said dozens of similar reports were taken near that same area just one week earlier.

One man who had multiple vehicles hit last week replaced all those tires only to have them destroyed again overnight. In just a week, he will have replaced 24 tires.

"There no logic, there's no logic to what is happening," Henry Wolf said. "Nobody can figure this out."

A surveillance camera at one home captured a suspect in action, kneeling down by a tire before moving on to another one.

"There'd have to be mental issues," Wolf said. "I don't know if I hate him or feel sorry for him."

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case. There is no suspect information at this time.

You can leave a tip online at or call 503-823-HELP.

Anyone who discovers damage to their vehicle is asked to call the police non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.

If you see any suspicious activity consistent with these crimes, call 911 right away.

Investigators are not able to say whether these new incidents are connected to a string of tire slashings in 2013. Between May and November last year, Portland police said more than 500 reports were filed about tire vandalism. The cost to victims was estimated as high as $500,000.
