TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The San Juan burning southeast of Vernon has reached 5,000 acres and is threatening residences southeast of Vernon, according to the Incident Information System.

The fire, which started Thursday, burned across containment lines on Saturday. The fire threatens 90 structures in the area, including homes, sheds and well houses.

Authorities have determined that the fire was human caused and an investigation is being conducted.

A total of 522 personnel have been assigned to the fire, which is located north of the Boundary Butte and southeast of Vernon. The team includes five helicopters, eight hotshot crews, six hand crews, 24 engines, five dozers and four water tenders.

Apache County issued evacuations Thursday evening in the subdivisions of Red Cabin Ranch and Whiting Homestead. Mandatory evacuations were issued Friday in Carlock Ranch south of Bucklew Springs and Forest Service Roads 61 and 2. Pre evacuation notices have since been issued for Green Peaks Hideaway and Hidden Meadows Ranch.

Closures are in place at FS Road 271B, County Road 3140 and 3261, FS Roads 267, 224, 117, and 96. A closure is in place for part of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.

New containment lines are now being implemented. No structures have been lost at this time.

Evacuees are being housed at the American Red Cross reception center at Round Valley Middle School in Eager, Ariz.

More information regarding the fire is available on the County website at www.co.apache.az.us or by calling (928) 333-3412.
