A Beaverton couple is behind bars, accused of beating, choking and slapping their kids.
Police arrested Samoul Nang and Singa Rogers after a video of the alleged abuse surfaced. The boys are ages 3 and 5.
"It's pretty appalling," said neighbor Dustin Simpson.
The couple's roommate and former friend Deanna Schwitzke said she got suspicious about what was happening after noticing some bruises on the children. She tells FOX 12 she asked the boys about it while their parents were away.
"Both kids showed up with black eyes at our house. They each told different stories, and I didn't believe them," said Schwitzke. "The next day, they came home, and the kids had bruises everywhere."
To confirm her suspicions, Schwitzke said she bought some cameras and hid them in her apartment. When she checked what they captured, she was mortified.
"I started crying. I was pissed," said Schwitzke.
Court documents reveal that camera recorded Nang choking, slapping, kicking and biting the 5-year-old boy. The child's mother allegedly slapped and kicked the boy, pulling on his ear, according to court documents.
Both Nang and Rodgers denied ever causing any physical harm to the kids until they watched the video, according to court documents.
Rogers told police that she didn't do more to stop the abuse because she was "jaded by her love of Samoul," and she was afraid it would lead to her not having a place to live.
"I just hope they get what's coming to them," said Schwitzke.
Nang and Rogers are facing multiple counts of assault and criminal mistreatment. Their trial is set for Aug. 19.
The boys were taken into state custody.
