(Toledo News Now) -

Last year, millions of Americans bought an expanding garden hose. They were one of the hottest consumer products of 2013, but many have landed in the trash after springing leaks too quickly.

Now lawsuits are flying.

"When this came along, the big attraction to me was no kinking, easier watering for my wife, and we could sprinkle to our hearts' content," said David Kapp, who two of the hoses for a total of $86.

He says both burst within just a few weeks.

With consumers across the country bursting mad, lawyers took notice and started filing suit. Telebrands, the maker of the "Pocket Hose," the most popular expandable hose, has settled a class-action lawsuit. They have agreed to refund up to $20 to people who bought it.

Another class-action lawsuit has been filed in federal court against Tri Star Products, the maker of the "Flex-A-Ble Hose," the kind Kapp bought.

Tri Start did not return calls or emails for comment on the case.

The Pocket Hose has since been renamed the "Pocket Hose Ultra." The new version is supposed to be 30 percent stronger.

Whatever you buy, don't waste your money.
