HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A burglary suspect ended up behind bars hours after a standoff set up to catch him ended with officers empty handed.

Police said Washington County Deputies arrested Kevin Toler, 22, just before midnight Friday at a home in Cornelius.

It started around 1:30 p.m. Friday when police went to a home on Cornelius Pass road near Johnson.

Police said Toler kicked through a wall to get into a neighboring apartment where he stole guns.

The four-plex was evacuated after police responded, and a tactical team was called in to deal with the possibly armed man.

"There was a shed near the fourplex and there were cops on their knees, with guns pointing in the door and several cops surrounding them," said Chelsea Doeppe who lives nearby. "Cops were wearing riot shields running down the road."

Police were able to clear all four apartment units by about 8:30 p.m. when they discovered the burglar had already fled.

They think he was able to escape before they were able to surround the area.

Investigators have not said what led deputies to arrest Toler in Cornelius.

Deputies booked Toler in the Washington County Jail.

He's facing charges of theft and burglary.
