PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

DNA evidence has connected a man behind bars in Pennsylvania with a Portland kidnapping and sex abuse investigation.

Jason Demby, 32, is being held in Erie, PA on a fugitive warrant out of Oregon.

He is wanted in connection to a case that began on Sept. 24, 2013.

According to court documents, Demby met a woman at a north Portland bar. The woman, now 28 years old, was later found near Northeast 57th and Sandy Boulevard crying, screaming and bruised.

An arrest warrant affidavit says the alleged victim had been drinking with a friend. That friend told police they left the bar at around closing time and were offered a ride from a man in a van who they met earlier at the bar. He described both the man and his van as "sketchy."

However, according to court documents, the woman's friend told police they all three smoked marijuana together. The man with the van then dropped the friend off at his house.

At that point, the alleged victim got out with her friend, but then returned to the van and left with the driver, the warrant states.

The woman said she was tied up by her wrist and physically and sexually assaulted, even though she remembered repeatedly telling the man "no."

She was later found on the street in northeast Portland, saying she had been pushed out of the van.

She approached a stranger and said, according to court documents, "Can you help me please, I've been raped."

The man who found her was out for an early morning jog. He told Fox 12 she was screaming and disheveled.

Jim Shulevitz said he walked the woman over to a restaurant where they called 911 and waited for police.

According to court documents, police described the woman as crying hysterically with multiple bruises, including around both eyes, bloodied whites of her eyes, scratch marks on her throat and various others cuts and abrasions all over her body. She also smelled strongly of alcohol, investigators reported.

There was a black cotton belt tied around her wrist.

That belt was submitted to the Oregon State Police Forensic Laboratory and investigators said a search of the national DNA database turned up a match: 32-year-old Jason Demby.

Local authorities made contact with police in Erie, PA, in connection to Demby late last week. He had been pulled over with a 15-year-old girl in his car in Erie.

He was taken into custody for possession of marijuana, while the girl was interviewed by detectives. His description matched the description provided by the alleged victim and her friend in Portland, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Demby was then detained on an arrest warrant for charges in Oregon including kidnapping, assault and sex abuse, according to court documents.

"People who go around attacking women just have no place in society," Shulevitz said. "So, I'm glad he's been identified and hopefully that will stop any future attacks."

There is no word yet on his possible extradition back to Oregon.
