WESTFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

The 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base will be conducting evening training flights from July 22 until Aug. 1.

Flights will take off between 4 and 5 p.m. and land between 8:30 and 10 p.m., according to Senior Master Sgt. Robert J. Sabonis.

"We do not want to alarm the residents around the local area of Westfield who may be startled by the increase in aircraft activity during the evening and night time hours," Sabonis said.

Sabonis said the missions are a critical part of their required reoccurring training.

"The night-training is required to ensure our pilots are ready to respond to any airborne threat in the Northeastern United States, at any time, in any condition," Sabonis said.

The 104th Fighter Wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard in Westfield equipped with F-15 Eagles and is assigned to the Air Combat Command. It is one of the oldest flying units in Massachusetts, according to the 104th Fighter Wing's website.
