Car accident knocks out power for 5,000 in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

More than one hundred people are still without power after a car crashed into a utility pole Monday night.

Chesterfield Police responded to the 9300 block of Salem Church Road, near Route 288, where a car hit a power pole, knocking out power for around 5,000 Chesterfield homes. Authorities said the pole fell on top of the car after the driver hit it.

The driver of the car has been charged with reckless driving.
 
Salem Church Road is back open. Power was restored to all customers by around 7 a.m.
