Stolen trailer with wedding equipment inside recovered

CLACKAMAS, OR (KPTV) -

A Clackamas party supply company's trailer, full of equipment for several weddings, was found Monday night after someone stole it over the weekend.

"Right now is our busy season. We're hardcore into weddings so we've got a lot of chairs and tables going out," said Jason Gates, owner of Events Etc. NW.

Gates' company does equipment rentals and planning for hundreds of weddings and events every year.

One of his company's main trailers was out Sunday night at a Relay for Life charity event, packed with equipment. It was returned to the Clackamas shop around 4:30 a.m.

Two hours later, Gates showed up to work. The trailer and everything in it was gone.

"My instant reaction was just, it's gone," Gates said. "I don't know what we're going to do, cause it's full of a ton of equipment right now."

Inside the trailer was about $20,000 worth of equipment.

"There was locks on all of the doors, a lock on the tongue and obviously that didn't deter them," he said.

The stolen equipment was supposed to be used for 14 events this weekend, including some weddings. Jason and his staff had to call the brides to let them know what happened.

"You could hear this kind of like gasp in their voice when we were like, ‘OK so our trailer was stolen, it had some product in it that was going to be at your wedding,'" Gates said.

Gates and his staff have been working all day to make things right.

"To then have their wedding potentially ruined cause somebody took one of our trailers, that weighs heavy on us," he said.

Gates said other nearby rental companies agreed to help out by lending some of their supplies, but Monday night a woman in Gladstone called police to say the trailer was in her neighbor's driveway.

Gates said most of the items inside the trailer were in good shape, other than a few broken tables and chairs.

Gates said police didn't arrest anyone for the theft Monday since there wasn't anyone home.
