Texas Tech Physicians hold 'Christmas in July' for South Plains Food Bank

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The South Plains Food Bank received a much-needed donation on Friday.

CEO David Weaver says many people think about making donations during the holidays, but they have a big need during the summer, too.

So, Texas Tech Physicians held an internal drive.

On Friday, they donated what they collected, calling it Christmas in July.

"Usually our inventories get pretty low as we get into August and September," Weaver said, so this is the bump that we need."

The collection raised about 3,600 pounds of food and around $2,000.

Of course, donations are always needed.

You can drop off contributions at the food bank at 4612 Locust Avenue or make a donation online at http://www.spfb.org/.
