WASHINGTON, DC (FOX) - A deadly day in the Israeli and Gaza conflict.

The Israelis were hitting the Gaza Strip hard with more than a 100 Palestinians dying on Tuesday alone.

Explosions are now a familiar sight in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military ramping up efforts, taking out several Hamas marks.

Gaza's only power plant shutting down after it was hit, leaving much of the Strip in the dark.

Water supplies and medical facilities are also affected.

"Intensive care units, dialysis, pediatrics, and surgery departments are threatened with collapse," said Dr. Yousef Abu el-Rish, deputy head of the emergency unit at the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Dozens of airstrikes also taking out other targets including the home of Gaza's Hamas leader.

The escalation comes as Israeli officials remain committed to preventing the threat posed by Hamas.

"We are not prepared for these rockets to continue to strike Israel. We are not prepared that these attacks of infiltration will continue," said Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, an Israeli Defense Force spokesman.

The Palestinian Authority called for a 24-hour humanitarian cease-fire amid the intense fighting saying Hamas had agreed to the truce.

The militant group denies that claim.

Secretary of State John Kerry is continuing to work for a peace agreement despite recent Israeli criticisms of his efforts.

"I will not take a second seat to anybody in my friendship or my devotion to the protection of the State of Israel," Kerry said.

Meantime, Washington is at odds over more aid for Israel.

The U.S. House and Senate are trying to agree on legislation which would fund Israel's Iron Dome system before they go on summer recess.
