Deputies ID two 19-year-olds killed in Molalla River car crash

Two 19-year-olds were killed when their car crashed down a 100-foot embankment into the Molalla River.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Saturday about seven miles south of Molalla on South Molalla Forest Road.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies said the car left the road, went down a steep embankment and into the river.

The driver and one passenger were killed, deputies said.

They driver was identified Monday as Alexandra Samoilov of Canby. The other victim is Marina Toran of Salem. They were both 19 years old.

Three additional passengers between the ages of 20-22, including two from Alberta, Canada, were also injured. Their conditions were not known Monday.

Two of them were taken to the hospital on Life Flight.

Deputies said the water and steep bank made their rescue efforts difficult. At least on passerby helped the injured passengers before rescuers arrived.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Deputies said it is unknown if alcohol was a factor.
