PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A homeless single mother says she was making progress getting back on her feet when someone stole the bike she relied on for transportation.

Tina Boyer is currently living in a homeless shelter. Six weeks ago, she got a job at On Time Painting in Portland, prepping big rigs and trailers for painting.

It's a job that her boss, Don Chester, says she does well.

"Anything I ask her to do, she's on it. I don't care if she's on a 10-foot ladder, or under a truck sanding," Chester said. "And you know what? I wouldn't trade her for any of my guys, to be honest with you."

Boyer says things were looking up until Monday, when someone stole her silver Trek bike, worth about $800, from right in front of the shelter where she's staying. She'd chained it to a railing, but only through the tire.

"The tire was still there, looped through the chain, but the bike and my daughter's seat was gone," Boyer said.

Boyer said she's more than willing to take the bus to get around, but her daughter especially misses the bike.

"She's very much aware of it. She told me 'We've got to get a new one now,'" Boyer said.

There are security cameras all over the shelter property but the manager said they weren't recording the night Boyer's bike was stolen.

Anyone with information on Boyer's bike should call Portland police.
