A 19-year-old man was arrested in Beaverton as part of a sex trafficking investigation involving a missing teenager from California.

Beaverton police arrested Tyrell Armstrong Jr. on Friday.

Detectives said he was part of a group from Stockton, CA prostituting a minor along the west coast heading toward Seattle.

Police arranged a meeting at a Beaverton hotel and made contact with the 17-year-old girl, who was described as a missing runaway from Stockton.

Armstrong was then arrested on charges of compelling and promoting prostitution, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm.

Detectives said they found a loaded handgun in the center console of his vehicle.

Armstrong was booked in the Washington County Jail.

Breyonna Abercrombie, 18, was cited and released at the scene on the charge of promoting prostitution.

The 17-year-old girl was turned over to Washington County juvenile authorities and will be returned to her mother in Stockton.

"We will continue our efforts to target those who use the I-5 corridor as a way to move and profit from juveniles who are trapped in the world of sex trafficking," said Beaverton Police Chief Geoff Spalding. "Law enforcement intervention is the only way out for many juveniles."
