LACOMB, OR (KPTV) -

A man was arrested at the site of a massive marijuana growing operation on private timber land in Linn County.

Deputies said Louis Arellano-Arellano, 47, of Yakima, WA, was arrested at 10 a.m. Tuesday while tending to his marijuana plants on Weyerhaeuser property in the Lacomb area.

Detectives said Arellano was living at the site of the growing operation, which had nearly 1,900 plants on three different plots of land.

The site contained a hybrid marijuana strain that produces a smaller and thinner plant that matures at a faster rate, making the growing season much shorter, according to detectives.

Deputies said the estimated value of the marijuana plants at the site, if allowed to reach maturity, would be $1.8 million.

Deputies said his marijuana operation caused damage to the surrounding land and local streams because he cut small trees and brush, discarded trash in the area and littered the property with chemicals and irrigation tubing.

Arellano was booked in the Marion County Jail on charges of unlawful manufacture and possession of marijuana, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and littering in or near waterways.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported that Arellano is in the United States illegally and an ICE hold was placed on him, as well.
