MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Avra Valley Road has been open for several hours now, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The road had been closed in both directions after a man was hit and killed by a dump truck.  According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the man was hit while walking along Avra Valley Road near Interstate 10.

Officials are saying the 23-year-old, identified as Shane Edward Rivera, was hit by a dump truck.  Motorists in the area stopped to assist with first aid, but Rivera died at the scene. New details from the Pima County Sheriff's Department say Rivera stepped out onto the road, in the path of the semi. The driver of the semi remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators, said the release.

Also responding to the scene were Northwest Fire District crews, the Pima County Department of Transportation and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.  Officials are saying the investigation is still ongoing.
