Crews try to free osprey tangled in twine in its own nest

CORVALLIS, OR (KPTV) -

A rescue effort is underway to help an osprey that appears to be stuck in some twine in its own nest.

A neighbor spotted the osprey several days ago. He said he noticed the bird kept trying to fly but kept being pulled back down because it was stuck on some twine.

That man contacted the Chintimini Wildlife Center in Corvallis to have it come and rescue the bird. Several organizations ended up pitching in to help.

Wednesday afternoon crews with Pacific Power used a truck with a bucket to try to reach the nest, but the arm on the truck wasn't long enough.

The executive director of Chintimini Wildlife Center expressed concern that if the osprey isn't freed from the twine, it will eventually be left behind by its parents and will likely die.

The wildlife center contacted the local fire department to see if it could use a ladder truck to rescue the bird, but the department said it's not able to help with that kind of call.

Pacific Power plans to try reaching the bird again Thursday, this time with a 100-foot ladder truck.
