PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Two known gang associates were arrested following a traffic stop after two loaded handguns were found in their car, according to Portland police.

Police pulled over a car Tuesday evening at Northeast Third and Weidler Street for traffic violations.

A passenger in the car, 18-year-old Brandon Duckworth, had an outstanding parole violation warrant and was taken into custody.

Further investigation led to the discovery of two loaded handguns, according to police. The guns were taken into evidence by officers.

The driver, 22-year-old Manuelito Gonzales Jr., was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Duckworth is also facing those charges. Both men were booked in the Multnomah County Jail.

The Portland Police Bureau's Gun Task Force was called to the scene as part of the investigation.

This week, the Portland Police Bureau's Gang Enforcement Team is being assisted by street crimes units from all three precincts to help prevent continued gang violence after several recent shootings.
