HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -

Two people were shot in Holyoke, one fatally, and investigators believe the shootings were connected.

The victim who was fatally shot was identified by Holyoke police Thursday morning as 31-year-old Hector Marrero, of Springfield.

Officers first responded to the area outside the Lafayette Cafe at 524 South Bridge St. at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. They found a 25-year-old Chicopee man who had been shot several times, according to Holyoke police Lt. Jim Albert.

He was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Just minutes later police responded to a van crash on Hamilton Street just a couple of blocks away from the shooting. The driver, Marrero, had been shot and killed, Albert said.

Police located numerous bullet shell casings on South Bridge Street and outside of the club, Albert said.

No names were released and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with any information is asked to please call the Holyoke Police Department at 413-322-6940 or the Text-A-Tip with the word SOLVE and your message to 274637.
