ESTACADA, OR (KPTV) -

The 36 Pit Fire burning near Estacada grew fewer than 100 acres Monday to 5,508 acres, fire officials said Tuesday morning. The fire is now 45 percent contained.

Firefighters were optimistic about their chances of getting the fire under control as cooler, wetter weather moves into the area.

While the fire's growth has slowed, danger still persists and some areas are still closed, including The Lazy Bend Camp and Work Center and the La Dee OHV area.

Highway 224 is open only to residents and workers with valid identification.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by multiple agencies, but it's believed to have been started by target shooters, according to the initial investigation.

Evacuation orders as of Tuesday morning:

Level 1 (Be ready):

Hillockburn Road east of Habelt and Silver Fox RV Park

All other evacuation orders have been lifted.
