CLACKAMAS, OR (KPTV) -  Portland's beloved soul singer, Linda Hornbuckle, passed away Saturday morning at the age of 59.

According to Oregon Music News, Hornbuckle passed away at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical center after a two-year battle with liver and kidney cancer. She was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon with complications resulting from her illness.

At the hospital, she was said to be surrounded by a tight circle of family, close friends and current and former band mates. They were all there Saturday when she passed away peacefully.

Hornbuckle started singing at the age of 6. She toured and recorded with national recording artists Quarterflash, Nu-Shooz and Dan Reed. She later became the lead vocalist for the Motown revue "Body and Soul."

In recent years, Linda performed regularly and recorded with award-winning pianist Janice Scroggins, as well as with the Linda Hornbuckle Band. She was said to be the Northwest's No. 1 Soul Sister.

By day, Linda was a Community Health Specialist for The Multnomah County Health Department, where she worked with teens about health issues that effect them.

There will be a concert Oct. 14 at the Crystal Ballroom called "Love for Linda." The concert is said to help raise funds for the family's medical bills and it will also continue as a public celebration of the singer's life.

The concert will feature Quarterflash, Soul Vaccination, the Linda Hornbuckle Band with Andy Stokes, LaRhonda Steele, Liv Warfield (flying in from Minneapolis), Patrick Lamb, Eddie Martinez and other special guests.
