Lake Oswego teen accused of sex abuse pleads guilty to reduced charge

Posted: Updated:

A Lake Oswego teen once facing Measure 11 sex abuse charges involving a girl on a flight to Portland International Airport pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of misdemeanor public indecency.

The 17-year-old boy had charges of sex abuse and sodomy dropped, and he was arraigned Monday on the new misdemeanor charge.

He was sentenced to 18 months probation and ordered to complete any court recommended counseling.

Prosecutors said the new charge was implemented after questions arose about whether or not the 13-year-old girl involved in the case was forthcoming about her age.

The original story outlining the allegations, published Jan. 22, 2015, is printed below.

A Lake Oswego teen is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl he met on a plane bound for Portland.

The teen is facing Measure 11 felony charges that could land him in jail for years, according to court documents. The 17-year-old is a student at Lake Oswego High School.

Court documents reveal this all began in August of last year aboard a Southwest Airlines flight to Portland.

Those documents go on to say that the suspect met the 13-year-old girl and sat next to her. The two allegedly began holding hands and made out.

According to court documents the two continued to do so off the plane in the men's bathroom at the Portland International Airport.

Court documents show at that point the girl claims she told the 17-year-old “no,” and grabbed his hands to stop him but he allegedly persisted.

She later called police and told investigators he sexually abused her.

The teen was later arrested, and has spent weeks in the juvenile jail.

This week a judge agreed to lower his bail, so his family could post enough money for him to get out.

Court documents show upon his release he will be allowed to return to Lake Oswego High School.

The teen will be released with around the clock GPS monitoring. Court documents show he's under many restrictions like not being able to text or use social media. He also can't have any contact with minors younger than him except family, according to court documents.

Those who know him said he's a good kid and a great big brother to his sisters. Court documents show he has no criminal history.

His family did not want to comment about the allegations.

The Lake Oswego School District also says they have no official comment on this situation.
