Vancouver teacher put on leave due to allegations of voyeurism in classroom

Posted: Updated:

An Evergreen High School teacher was put on paid leave while police investigate allegations of voyeurism, which stem from photographs students took in class.

Fox 12 is not identifying the teacher because he has not been arrested or charged at this time.

Vancouver Police say a school resource officer is investigating the allegations.

One cell phone picture provided to Fox 12 shows a man, identified as the teacher, sitting across a table from two female students and one male student while holding his cell phone under the table.

The phone appears to be on.

One of the female students in the picture told Fox 12 she believes her teacher was recording video up her dress while talking to her about a class assignment.

“I felt disgusted and grossed out,” she said.

Fox 12 is not identifying the student because she is a minor.

The girl said her classmates approached her after class on Monday to show her pictures they took of the teacher holding the phone.

They immediately reported the incident to school officials.

In a letter sent home to parents, Evergreen High School referred to the allegations as “potentially inappropriate behavior by a teacher in a classroom.”

The letter also reads, “Vancouver Police were immediately called in to begin an investigation. Evergreen High School is cooperating fully with the investigation and will take any necessary action based on the findings of the investigation.”

The mother of the student in the photo has pulled her daughter from the school.

“I think they're taking it a little more seriously but I hope they just don't try to ignore it,” she said. “That's something a pedophile does. It's not normal.”
