Woman traveling through PDX claims she was assaulted by TSA agent

Posted: Updated:

A woman traveling through PDX says she was assaulted by a TSA agent during a secondary screening.

Yolanda Torres tells FOX 12 she went through the security checkpoint at PDX in July, but failed the metal detector test because of a titanium plate she had surgically placed in her thigh.

Torres says the TSA agent moved the metal detector over her leg several times and then asked her to step into a private room for a secondary screening.

“I felt intimidated, I felt like my rights violated, and for what purpose,” said Torres.

FOX 12 spoke with Torres via Skype Thursday night, she's now back home in New Mexico preparing for her wedding this weekend.

Torres says she was in that private screening room with a 50-year-old female TSA agent, who told her to raise her hands above her head.

She then allegedly performed another search of her upper torso and reached under her blouse with both hands, feeling under the bottom edge of her bra and chest, according to Torres.

After that, Torres claims the agent asked her to remove her shorts so she could search for the source of the alarm, and then allegedly looked at her groin.

Torres says the whole time, there was another agent in the room that was busy going through her purse and didn't see this all happen.

“I was hurt, I felt like I was in prison, it was not right,” said Torres. “I felt like I was being raped, no woman should have to go through this, no person should have to go through this.”

Torres says she filed a complaint with TSA and the Port of Portland, who launched an investigation into the incident.

Torres says she's speaking out, because she wants TSA held accountable and is now considering legal action.

TSA told us they believes Torres’ story does not align with their evidence, and they do not do strip searches.  They went on to say they try their best to treat passengers with dignity and respect.
