Injured horseback rider rescued after horse slides down hill in Linn Co.

LINN COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Linn County Search and Rescue members were called out to rescue an injured horseback rider and horse near Marion Lake.

According to Linn Co. Sheriff's Office, the horse and rider slid down a hill after attempting to cross a log that was lying across a trail. 

Five people, who were traveling with 7 horses, tried to repair the trail and ended up staying Wednesday night at the location.

The next day, one person in the group left to call for help.

Sixteen Linn Co. SAR members, six Linn Co. Mounted Posse member and Corvallis Mountain Rescue responded to the area.

The injured rider, Angela Shelby, 50, from Crook River, and her party were located around 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Shelby sustained a sprained ankle. Shelby's horse sustained minor injuries.

Once the party returned to the Bingham Ridge trailhead, they were given food, water and a ride to their horse trailers.
