Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting at Salem strip club

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Police have made an arrest in a July 18 shooting at a Salem strip club that left one person dead and four others injured.

Officers responded to the Stars Cabaret at 1550 Weston Court Northeast just before 1 a.m. July 18 after receiving reports of shots fired.

Police initially found four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers located a fifth victim some time later.

One of the victims, Darryl Patrick Jones, died at the hospital. The other four suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Salem police worked with officers from the Portland Police Bureau to track down the suspect, Tomas Gabriel Mendoza, 24, and arrest him at his home in Portland.

Police said the shooting was the result of an altercation at the strip club.

Police said Jones and two of the surviving victims were not associated with anyone involved in the fight, but happened to be at the counter at the club and were caught in the gunfire.

Mendoza was booked in the Marion County Jail on charges of murder, four counts of assault in the second degree and felon in possession of a firearm.
